About The Soft Furnishings Workshop

My mother taught me to sew when I was a little girl so I have been sewing for as long as I can remember. For quite a few years I have been concentrating on soft furnishings. I always made my own curtains and then a friend asked if I could make some for her. Another friend saw those, liked them and wanted some made. And so began my business… and so it has continued.

Orginally all of the commissions were sewn on my narrowboat – which proved interesting and somewhat of a squeeze at times. Try making 48 seat bases, each 5ft x 2ft, complete with foam, on a boat that that is only 7ft wide. As I said… interesting at times.

Five years ago, I finally moved into my first Studio. I have just moved again and am now based at Heyford Wharf in Lower Heyford, near to Oxford. It’s a lovely space with room to lay out huge curtains for pinning; room to store all my stock; room to move around…. just heaps of lovely space in which to work. Hurrah!

Most of my Clients are private but I do undertake work for commercial Clients as well… including seat bases for a Pub/Brewery in the East End of London; curtains and seating for several Narrowboat Holiday Hire companies; enormous roman blinds for a Tea Room by the river in Abingdon… and many others.

While I’m not there all the time, I would love to meet you. So, feel free to phone or email to book an appointment to come and visit.
